A Legend...

Michael Jackson 1958-2009

I am reeling from the news!! I will never forget in my lifetime that it was my cousin Jennifer who broke the news to me on IM. The King of Pop is gone!! It is very fresh and no I don't have the answer to "WHY?" I can only discuss and mourn the contribution in which he has given me, like millions of others. Do you..."Remember the Time", or look for the "Man in the Mirror", live like a "Smooth Criminal", "Beat It" when times get rough, have your own "PYT", do things that are "Off the Wall", let me ever "Rock With You", kissed a "Billie Jean", called me "Dirty Diana", "Scream" "Leave Me Alone", hear me tell you about "The Way You Make Me Feel", been stuck "In the Closet", gave to "Heal the World", seen things in "Black or White", fell in love with that "Superfly Sister", done one too many "Bad" things, or lived by the motto "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" .....just tell em that it's "Human Nature" and live in the "Thriller" time he gave us all!!!

I don't want to turn on the news because I'm afraid I will hear the tabloid machine crank out their recap about MJ I never wanted to hear in the first place. The fame monster that has been there for years trying to tear him down. I despise what they have made of him. So I chose to always love him and his music...good, bad, or indifferent. His musical canvas was a major part of my upbringing and my life. He will be missed forever...but I know he is at peace finally. Please play his music instead of watching any twisted hype that may unfold...that is what he would have wanted. Play on MJ, Play on.....

Auld Lang Syne

We all celebrate New Year's in one way another...some getting blacked out by as much alcohol as they can consume, others lighting fireworks in their cul-de-sac with their buddies, one or two times trying to find the right person to plant one on when the ball drops, or a few where you stayed home & lit sparklers with the kids while dancing in the New Year. If you hadn't guessed...I have participated in all of these New Year traditions. Of course they have been spread throughout the years. But all the while there was THAT song playing in the background!! You know...that "old acquaintance" song that most of us only know a couple of words to. I'm talking about Auld Lang Syne people and it's about time we all get a lesson on what they are actually saying and what the heck it means. If you are a smarty pants and already know the meaning and all the words...Stop Reading I guess. I don't need a critic LOL!

OK so here it goes:

Now without translating every dang word...I am going to give you the gist!!!

The song title translates from old Scottish dialect meaning 'Old Long Ago' and is about love and friendship in times past. The lyrics convey memories of relationships and how some of those may have wandered over time. It also means to me that even with distance there can be amity...for the sake of 'Old Long Ago'.

What a great lesson for us - human creatures walking around trying to co-exist with other people as they enter in and out of our lives. Especially as a Military Family Member, this can come in handy when we have to let some of the people in our lives go, respectfully. Ok some of them I just wanted to go away. :o)

I hope everyone has a Fabulous 2009...I know we will!! Catch you next year :o)

One-Hit Wonders

So I peeped into my Myspace page today and my music playlist started up (the same one I have on the blog) and I just love my music. But, I listen to it often (usually when I am cleaning), so the songs were itching me and that prompted me to go on a mad search for oldies but goodies slated from my younger years. You would not believe how many I found and how many times I caught myself talking out loud to the screen. Outcrys like..."Oh my gosh, this song rocks!!"...and..."How could I have forgotten that one??"...and so on. OK so I was busting out in song, too, here and there. The kids were wondering what was wrong with me I'm sure.
But NOW you must swing on down and sway to the right to check out my latest and newest additions. We're talking from Tracey Ullman...

to JJ Fad

to The Cardigans.

SWEET...reminiscing on new OLD jams are always fun!! Love me some one-hit wonders!!

VMAs

So, another year of the VMAs has come and gone and I have to say...it was enjoyable. I liked the performances overall. It was nice to see Pink do her thing...man that chick has a slammin body. Aguilera did her little post baby debut (having a striking resemblance to Britney with that hair and outfit), Kid Rock brought it down with my one of my favorite summer songs, and even Paramore did a fabulous job via Whiskey-a-Go-Go. Just wondering about those pants...

There were, of course a few things that were bothersome. Like why does Rhianna always have to perform twice? I mean she's cute and all, but dang. We all know there's a pool of hungry musicians that could have strutted their stuff just as well as she did. Give someone different a chance MTV. Another disappointment was Kanye's performance. He's losing steam for me. His self-righteousness is annoying enough...now we have to listen to songs that sound like brainwashing techniques. I can't!!!

The only question I really have is....Who the heck is this guy?? And why does the back of his hair have to do that??

I mean I get it...he's British and we need someone that isn't too invested in the American pop culture phenom (which I think covers everyone famous in America, right?). But what was he saying? I couldn't catch 60% of his ramblings. The other 40% was pretty funny I guess...I have to assume there was no correlation between the two percentages. His purity ring jokes...or just sex jokes overall, were becoming a nuisance but that's no different than Chris Rock's jabs at previous VMAs. The VMAs are meant to be filled with raunchy attacks on celebrities. Remember this...
Gotta love Chris Rock!!
Lastly, I have to comment on the anticipated return of Ms Britney. I really wanted her to perform for us so that we could have the whole "compare and contrast" really going on, but I understand she isn't trying to rush the inevitable. So my comment is quick and painless Britney...you looked healthy and sober!! You showed everyone that you could bounce back from being high and chubby. Thank you for giving us the visual again. You were bringing sexy back girl!

So, that is my report on the VMAs and I'll be awaiting next year's awards with the hopes for some Ne-Yo, Eminem, Jordin Sparks, and of course B Spears performances. One last thing...who thinks this guy is just the most adorable thing....? I do!! McLovin all day long!!

See you next year...
